This is a beautifully written book and deals wonderfully with its subject matter. I know some people think the narration is a bit over the top but I felt it worked well here and suited the atmosphere of the book and the events of that time.

The Book Thief is one of those rare books. It is not everyday that we see a book from the point of view of death. We also get to see a series of bad events, good events, crazy events, sad events, killing events and the kind of event that brings out an array of emotions. Unlike most stories about war that dealt purely on loss and on the outcome, this story tells about the situation. How despite adversary there is still joy, love, friendship and goodness all in the understanding of children. There were a lot of good things going on without hiding the fact that they are surrounded by coldness and dislike. It is a wonderful story, and there are many values to be learned from it. What is also nice, it can be read by different ages, you do not need to be a certain old age to truly appreciate the book.
